Polytechnic background
The Shamberere National Polytechnic is a Certified Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institution established on 25th November 1982 as a Rural Education Programme in the Shamberere area, Malava Sub-County, Kakamega County.
It is located one kilometer off the Kakamega–Malava–Webuye road at Kambi ya Mwanza, on the road to West Kenya Sugar Company.

- Elevated to Youth Polytechnic1985Expanded its mandate to serve youth technical training.
- Became a Trade Test Centre1996Recognized for trade testing and certification.
- Registered as a Technical Training Institution (TTI)2009Duly registered by the Ministry of Education as a Technical Training Institution.
- Elevated to a National Polytechnic2024Elevated through Legal Notice No. 10 of 2024 and established as a body corporate with defined objectives and functions.

Provide, directly or in collaboration with other institutions of higher learning, facilities for technical, technological, professional, scientific education and training.

Participate in technological innovation as well as in the discovery, transmission, and enhancement of knowledge for economic, social, cultural, scientific and technological development.

Contribute to industrial and technological development of Kenya, in collaboration with industry and other organizations, through transfer of technology.

Promote and establish a culture of innovation in engineering and technology, and technology transfer amongst staff and trainees.

Develop an institution with excellence in teaching, training, scholarship, entrepreneurship, research, consultancy, community service, among other educational services and products, with emphasis on technology and its development, impact and application within and outside Kenya.

Provide a multi-level system of post-secondary school education and training programmes relevant to the needs of the community, covering a wide range of fields and levels with provision for recognition of prior learning and flexibility of transition between programmes.
